YEAR: 1987 - 1989

SEASON: Winter

DATE: 27 TIME AND CONDITIONS: (1) It was late at night. There may have been a full moon as the late night view was good. There was alot of snow in the area

(2) and (3) were on separate parts of highway 6

(2) west of the airport and (3) was east of the airport.

Both were at night on clear nights and the weather was good. (2) was a couple of years later. (3) was about 7 years ago.

NEAREST TOWN: between state Bridge-Bond and Wolcott

NEAREST ROAD: on highway 131 / highway six between Gypsum and Eagle

COUNTY: Eagle

STATE/PROVINCE: Colorado

DIRECTIONS TO LOCATION: This is the main road from I-70 in Eagle county to the resort of Steamboat Springs Colorado. It is a small two lane road and 10-12 years ago did not get the amount of traffic that it does now in the year 2000. At the time many long time locals of the Bond McCoy area lived up this road, many have now moved away.

(2) Was very near to Gypsum close to the outlying businesses, now there are alot of buildings in the area and the population has tripled.

(3) Empty fields that are now dotted with buildings and with construction. Traffic is much heavier as the population had grown in the county.

OBSERVED: : It was when I was a late teen somewhere around 17- 19 years of age though I do not remember exactly I believe that I was closer to 19 so I think it was 88. I will be thirty this year. I was riding with a friend named Steven, we were returning from giving another friend a ride home that night to the Bond McCoy area. The roads were snow packed and icy which was causing us to drive much slower than we normally would have traveled. This area is also known year round for the amount of deer and elk in on and around the road, most times if you mention a trip to a local in this area they will say watch out for the deer and elk. Never have I heard watch out for Bigfoot! But now I know that it is a good idea.

Steven and I were laughing and talking on our trip he was driving I the only passenger, he looked at me while talking and his eyes wandered out my side window and he said " what the hell is that?" I immediately looked out my window but at first couldn't see anything- then my eyes settled on the form of the strangest thing I had seen to date and the awe of it at first was unreal. The thing was white and very, very large. It's figure was perfectly camouflaged in the snow, but the sage brush in the direct line of sight offered contrast. The thing was running along side our car at a distance at first and then as I think Steven slowed the car down it came nearer, close enough to reach out one of the long arms and touch the car if it wanted to. I could see it more clearly than he could and I noticed several things about the beast that followed along side us. For one it did not swing those long arms it held them out in front of it like a man would, it's face was totally covered in white hair and all that was visible were the eyes, the scariest part was that it looked me right in the eyes and though I was far enough away and dark enough I could see in no detail that it seemed intent on us and that it used it's mouth.

Though we heard no screams or vocals at all there where black accents on it in places. Two black tufts around where the neck would bend there wasn't much of a neck and black around the elbows in a thin line down the arm to the wrist. Now there is no way this was a man because it was to very large for one. We estimated 10-12 feet tall and with a bulking mass that seemed normal for something that big. For the other there is no man I know of that can run 40-50 mph for the distance that it ran and I swear that thing seemed as though it could have kept going all the way to Eagle. Another thing was the arms they were very long and held naturally in a running position. It was not an artificial position as one would assume a man carrying long sticks to extend his arms. The beast seemed at a comfortable gait at 40-50 mph so I would be afraid to think what would happen if we had been on foot.

When this thing began to come closer Steven sped up and reached a speed of about 40-50 mph. the beast kept up and when we reached a spot in the road where the land drops down and the road raises up the drop from the road is about 30 ft. and there is a house there but I don't think it is occupied. Anyway, the creature departed down into this area still at a full run at which point I could see it's back. It was well defined as in muscular and the butt was large as in a large muscular butt again the neck was short if at all but it was carried high not forward, and there was no slouch to this creature at all.

I think in reflection that the creature was plotting the area because beyond is the area where land and road meet up again and it sped slightly ahead of us giving me a full view of the back, but at the time we were panicking. There was only one rational thought in our brains, escape and as we yelled and screamed at each other another thought that was communicated between us was don't wreck the car Lord Knows what that thing would do and we didn't want to die, as we believed we would if we stopped. I kept yelling that he should go faster and he said he was going as fast as he dared to go. When the creature departed down the incline we thought maybe it was gone but we didn't slow down to find out. Where the road met up with the land or evened out the thing tore out of the under brush and came at the car again and Steven now reached speeds of 60-65 mph and we where able to loose the creature. Where we lost the thing there is a clear view of I-70 and the thought that the creature may have headed down the ravine to the Eagle river was in my mind as we traveled on. The county dump is near to this area and there is now a house on the ridge overlooking I70. 131 separates from the ravine and twists and turns coming into Wolcot. We hit I-70 and proceeded home at a great rate of speed not seeing this creature again, but the fear for us both lasted.

(2) Long after the first incident I was riding with a different friend back and forth form Eagle to Gypsum in the late hours of the night. We were bored and kept late hours. We were talking and just driving. As we approached Gypsum and could see the lights of the town but were still far off we both saw a large man like shape cross the fence and then the road ahead of us and then it was gone. I say cross the fence because it appeared that it just put a hand on the rail and raised slightly then walked over it as I might do for a 21/2 foot fence. The fence was a standard cattle barb wire fence that is commonly used in pasture and had been there for years. We paused conversation and I said did you see that and she said "Yeah" but I wasn't going to say anything. We proceeded on and I looked out to the field but saw nothing. The thing was very large from our vantage point it blocked out lights that from the angle should have been visible but there was no talk of Bigfoot until later when we had thought about the apparent size of the thing. To me this one was slouched or hunched over.

(3) I had taken a friend's car to try to quiet my baby with a drive. My son fell right asleep. I drove from Eagle to Gypsum and was coming back. There was an erie feeling along the road that night for me. On the return trip I thought I saw something behind the truck and showed my break lights, there were three or more things, large shadows running across the road behind the truck and I freaked and hit the gas and sped to Eagle and to my other friend's house. When I told her about the sight she told me about people that she knew and some of which I went to high school with that where up on the flat tops and had sightings every time that they stopped.

It is my conclusion from the recent reports that this thing exists still in this county and I am interested in finding out if anyone else has seen what I have seen or if any other tracks have been found. I also believe that the population increase has pushed them out to travel trails that now go to the river to the outside of town West of Gypsum and East of Eagle because these areas are not likely to have a lot of people around especially at night.

ENVIRONMENT: The area of 131 where we first noticed this thing is sage brush and tall hills that lead into lush forest deeper in the mountains in three directions, North, East, and West at varying distances the flat tops are only miles away as the crow flies ( sight of other sightings by other people I have heard of). This area is mostly sage brush. Not far from the summer sheepherders area.

ALSO NOTICED: (1) There were at the time locals who said that they knew of a beast.

(2) We were the only car out that night and why the creature chose to run ahead of us instead of after we had passed.

(3) The feeling that something was not right and knowing that the shadows were close enough to have jumped on the truck.

OTHER WITNESSES:

(1) Just the two of us were in the car.

(2) Two in a car.

(3) One in the car, baby with me.

OTHER INCIDENTS:We met up with the friend that we had given a ride home and told her about it when she asked us for a ride home. As neither of us were wanting to go up that road again. She told us that we should talk to her dad. Intrigued we gave her a ride home. I only over heard parts of the conversation and this basically is what Steven told me about it. There has been a large upright walking creature in the area for years and is remembered and that ranchers knew about it. It had on occasion taken cattle and sheep, but to no one's knowledge had it ever attacked people. It was believed to be gentle and always fled from people. There was some talk of tracks and I don't know where or when. The two men there said that they had seen it and had run-ins with it. They were very uncomfortable talking about it and said that they would not talk too much about it they were us, due to the wealth in Eagle county and the amount of new people in the area. There are not many of the old timers left in the area, and the ranching and farming way of life for most is a thing of the past. Most have moved away.

One thing that I have noticed is that people don't look at any rate. It maybe right there but every one is always in a hurry as I used to be. I believe that if we had not looked we never would have seen that thing even as close as it was.

(3) Second hand account of people that are local and working on the flat tops seeing (Bigfoot) near an old cabin every time that they stopped.
