Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Cliff Barackman:
The witness was contacted by phone on 4/19/05.
The following details can be added to his report:
• They were camping at around 8300 ft. elevation on the west side of Mormon Mountain.
• They first heard the vocalizations after going to bed around midnight.
• Witness describes the sounds as exactly like gibbons from the zoo. Both the witness and his son were struck by the similarity between the “Whoops and Knocks” recording from the BFRO site and what they heard.
• The animal came from the east along the ridge, approached the camp within 100 yards, went around their camp in a wide circle, and then went down the mountain to the north. The vocalizations lasted about ten minutes and echoed considerably.
Dave is a very experienced hunter and woodsman. He is familiar with the animals in the area in question and their habits.
