Report # 26331  (Class B)
Submitted by witness on Friday, July 24, 2009.
Possible sighting by a First Nations member while hunting outside The Pas Area

YEAR: 2009

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: June

DATE: 15th

PROVINCE: Manitoba

COUNTRY: Canada

LOCATION DETAILS: The Pas and area

NEAREST TOWN: the pas

NEAREST ROAD: hyway 10

OBSERVED: I was out hunting out 27 kilometers from The Pas MB. I pulled into the gun range area to go sight my gun and head on into the bush to look for either chickens or rabbits. Before getting anywhere to the gun range I noticed a duck so I shot at it. It fell behind a shrub of bush. It landed maybe 20 feet away from the pond so me and my dog walked around the pond to retrieve the duck. We had troubles finding it at first but 15 mintues of looking I gave up until a creature, I am not saying bigfoot but something in the range of it. I am 6 foot 4 and 148 pounds and this animal/creature was alot alot bigger than me. The nearest road highway is about 800 feet from where I seen and heard this animal. It was bear moose shaped and had golden light brown coloured fur. It ran on its hind legs but used the front for balance speed. When I seen the animal run I high tailed it out of the bush firing a round towards the animal. I ran through a pond that was about 4 and half feet deep. My dog chased the animal. I searched and called for my dog for 2 hours and he came back about 5 miles from where we last seen the creature.

I phoned the local RCMP and told them but they laughed at me. A few days later a worker from Easy Home seen an animal jumping from trees and a few weeks later someone got a photo of the animal in residental areas. That photo looks like the animal I seen. I did not find any hairs or tracks because I was too scared to go back and look but I never found my duck besides the wings.

ALSO NOTICED: just the duck stripped of its wings

OTHER WITNESSES: angus garth and alex

OTHER STORIES: ive heard a few stories of a monkey like creature in the area

TIME AND CONDITIONS: the time was about 2 or 3 pm in the afternoon

ENVIRONMENT: 2 ponds adjacent together with heavy woods in the back train tracks further behind

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Blaine McMillan :

This is one of several incidents that have emanated from this region of Manitoba.
The witness was out with two friends to do some shooting at a local rifle range. On route they decided to stop and look for some small game to hunt and as First Nations members in Canada they are authorized to hunt for food at any time of the year. The witness saw a duck and shot it. When he went to retrieve the game and a large animal jumped up and ran away on two legs. The witness's dog gave chase while he fled in the other direction. The dog was found alive several miles away and although the body of the duck was never found its wings were discovered in the proximity of where the creature had initially burst from the bushes near the pond.

The witness is a First Nations member and as in many of these cases when they report such an incident to the local constabulary it is viewed with ridicule and disdain. As such First Nations members are very reluctant to report any sasquatch activity. I commend this witness for bringing this report to the attention of the BFRO.

I'm still working on locating the photo he mentioned. If anyone has information regarding this photo, please contact us.
