Memory of finding tracks in snow and the attempt to keep a record south of Quarryville

YEAR: 1994

SEASON: Winter

MONTH: February

DATE: 11

STATE: Pennsylvania

COUNTY: Lancaster County

LOCATION DETAILS: The area lies very close to the river hills of the Susquehanna where there is alot of cover and not alot of people.

NEAREST TOWN: Quarryville

NEAREST ROAD: Cookslanding Rd, Pilottown Rd

OBSERVED: On the morning noted a neighborhood man was driving down Pilottown Road around 4-5 in the morning when he came across large human-like footprints crossing the road and heading into a field/wooded area. I was almost 17 and when I woke up later that morning several neighbors were inspecting the tracks which came from a field behind my house, through my yard, across Cookslanding Road, into my neighbors yard, over a fence into a wooded area, across Pilottown Road and into the field/wooded area. The direction of travel appeared to be south east toward the Susquehanna River hills. Whatever made the tracks did take the time to inspect my rabbit hutch and my neighbors as well, though leaving them undisturbed. it also seemed to have walked around my neighbor's house, leaving 1 very good print protected by the overhang of the roof. The rest were partially filled with snow, but still unsettling due to their size and shape. The tracks were about 16" long, 8.5" wide, and 2" deep in the snow, and had a stride of about 4 feet. I am including a tracing I took of the well preserved track I found. It may seem a very incredible way of preserving the footprint, but it was the only thing I could think to do to preserve it. I traced over it EXACTLY as it appeared in the snow. To this day nobody knows what made the tracks. My neighbor and several other people of the neighborhood are avid hunters and outdoorsman. They didn't know what to make of them. I am not saying this is sasquatch, but here is the 'tracing':

ALSO NOTICED: About 2 weeks after this incident very similar tracks were reported just across the Susquehanna River in MD.

OTHER WITNESSES: About 5-8 more

OTHER STORIES: Yes, many more. I will post them, because I do believe that at one point "something" lived in and traveled these river hills. I am not the only one. Relatives and neighbors have seen and heard things over the years, though not within the past 17 years.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Around 4-5 A.M. It snowed heavily the previous night and there was about 8-10 inches of snow on the ground. Visual condition was very good at time of sighting.

ENVIRONMENT: Rural neighborhood surrounded by decidous woods, pastures, and fields. Relatively low population of people.

Tracing of Snowtrack

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Istvan Steve Ujvari:

At the time of this incident, the witness was a teenager who had lived in his neighborhood for a long time. Upon finding the tracks, he traced what was considered the most well preserved one out of the series. This one in particular was under the overhang of the neighbor's roof and thus was somewhat protected from the additional overnight snowfall after the print had been made. It should also be noted that the track faced the house directly, however the witness could not recall whether there was a window at that part of the house or not.

As described by the witness, it was obvious that whatever made the large tracks was inspecting the surroundings (two rabbit hutches, house, etc.) judging by the path that it took and how the tracks mulled around these structures before heading into the Susquehanna River Valley.

While this incident happened in the winter of 1994, the witness states that this area had a rich history of sightings and incidents dating back decades. He relayed to me two incidents in particular. The first happened to his uncle in the early 1980s while he was plowing a field during the springtime. As he crested a rise in the field with the tractor he noticed a creature sitting on the ground just inside of the woodline. The moment the creature became aware of the approaching farm tractor, it stood up on two legs and walked deeper into the woods and out of sight.

The second sighting also occurred in the early 1980s on the witness' grandparents' farm which is located in the same general vicinity and leads directly to the Susquehanna River Valley. His grandparents had given permission to some neighbors to snowmobile on their property. As the neighbors approached a lightly wooded fence row, a creature stood up on two legs and walked down the hill towards the river and out of sight.

During the mid-1980s the area started to experience significant development and thus these types of sightings and strange incidents began to dwindle. The last event that the witness recalls happening is the one of the snow tracks in this report.
