COUNTY: Sac County
LOCATION DETAILS: Auburn Iowa south west of town in the rural route area.
NEAREST TOWN: Auburn Iowa
NEAREST ROAD: county road
OBSERVED: Near Auburn Iowa. I was with three boys cruising the gravel roads, it was very late. It was summer around July corn was high. The two people in front were not paying attention as me and the other person saw cross the road a very big black hairy animal. It had a very arched back, it walked or strides were strange. The face was sort of dog like but it was hard to see it real good in detail because it was dark and a quick look. The legs I remember bent back. All I know is it was not anything normal or that anyone knows of, it was very scary looking .I was, and the person next to me in complete shock by what we had seen.
OTHER WITNESSES: First time the animal or creature was seen possibly around 2005 near Wall Lake my brothers friend had seen this black harry four legged strange animal cross the gravel road. His girlfriend at the time had seen it too. Definitely nothing we know of was described as a very creepy looking animal and after they had seen it they speeded up to get home as fast as possible.
OTHER STORIES: Not sure never really have talked about it with anyone other than friends and family.
Then two or three years later if I'm correct. My brother was driving home he was in high school at the time and saw just a mile from home on the gravel road near Early Iowa a black hairy animal in the ditch. When he got closer the strange creature stood up on its hind legs just little taller than full grown corn it was summer. The creature had pointy ears. It was the most frightening thing he had ever seen in his life. He did not stick around long to find out what it was he was too freaked out. He drove home fast, got home and shortly after he had got home his girlfriend who was following in a red camaro not far behind saw the creature too. But she saw the creature get down on all four and cross the road. As soon as she saw it she froze scared to death. She also drove fast after seeing it and got to the house crying in fear.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: It was very late. It was summer around July, corn was high.
ENVIRONMENT: Corn fields, farm house, small creeks
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator TK Bell:
In addition to the report, sighting occurred on a dark, calm, late summer night in late July. As the witness and three other friends were out driving around on the county roads. It was getting late between 10 pm and midnight when this animal appeared in the car headlights, taking only one to two steps to walk across in front of them to get from one side of the road to the other side. As the car speed was about 25-30 miles per hour the animal would have been about 20-30 feet in front of them when crossing. The height of animal was taller than their vehicle, even on all four legs, and bigger than a horse. The back legs looked inverted with big loin feet and had black hair. Found the witness to be credible.
