Daytime sighting while fishing on Waterman Lake

YEAR: 2011

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: September

DATE: 23

STATE: Wisconsin

COUNTY: Barron County

LOCATION DETAILS: 1/4 mile past Hill Top restaurant on 29 1/2 Ave on eastern side of upper Waterman Lake

NEAREST TOWN: Cumberland

NEAREST ROAD: 29 1/2 Ave.

OBSERVED: I was fishing in northwest Barron county late September of 2011. I made a cast and followed my lure in flight when it hit the water I noticed movement beyond my lure.on the side of the hill. I couldn't believe my eyes it was grey about seven or eight feet tall it was hard to judge the height because of the steepness of the hill. it was hanging on to one tree and grabbing another when it was coming down the hill. it froze in its tracks when it noticed me looking at him. He slowly pulled him self back up the hill, then he stood there for 2 seconds and looked at me; then he continued up the hill, never making a sound. I was about 20 yards away. I went home and rationalized it for a couple of days, before I told my friend about what I had seen, before I could describe it to him he told me what color it was. He said it was seen the same time the year before on the ice age trail, about a quarter mile from his house.

ALSO NOTICED: no, but i should have gotten out to look, i was in a fishing boat and the shore line was thick with vegetation.

OTHER WITNESSES: just me

OTHER STORIES: yes, the year before 3/4 of a mile away the same one was seen standing at the entrance of the ice age trail. 30 years ago on little sand lake there was one sighted thats about 3 miles as the crow flies from upper watermans by Maple Plain indian rez.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: about 4 in the afternoon. it was a sunny day. clear blue skies

ENVIRONMENT: all hard wood forest southwest of the Lake Barron county forest northwest of the lake Washburn county forest east of the lake ice age trail.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Dick Brom:

I contacted Bob and we went to the shore of Waterman Lake. There is no way to get to the back side of the lake where the sighting took place due to private land. He described in detail what he had seen and where. I took pictures of the area across the lake as a visual to the remoteness of the area. This area is surrounded by hundreds of acres of county land and I have personally been in these woods my self. Bob also told me of another sighting within 1/2 mile of here that was told to him by someone else. This sighting was at a spot where the Ice Age Trail crosses the road.
