Report # 7237  (Class A)
Submitted by witness (confidential) on Monday, October 27, 2003.
Evening sighting by motorist on Hwy 75 near Duke's Creek

YEAR: 1999

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: November

DATE: Thanksgiving night

STATE: Georgia

COUNTY: White County

LOCATION DETAILS: it was near Duncan Bridge, between the turn off for that road and Hwy. 17.

NEAREST TOWN: Cleveland and Helen

NEAREST ROAD: Hwy. 75

OBSERVED: It was on thanksgiving night in 99. I was driving home from my daughters apartment in Cleveland Ga. When suddenly I thought I saw a man crossing the road on hwy. 75. I hit my brakes and realized that it was wearing no clothes and was covered in hair like a bear, but it walked upright and hunched more like a man or a huge ape like thing. It was definately not a bear. It was large and long armed. It turned it's head and looked over at me, then swiftly jumped down a huge drop and dissappeared into the woods. It all happened so fast. I was shocked and went home not sure of what i believed i had seen at the moment. Before then I had never been sure something like that had existed and I tried to rationalize what I had seen, but now I am convinced that it was in fact neither man nor bear nor simple ape. I cannot prove what it actually was, but I can say that it was quite amazing. Either that night or the next morning I callerd Animal Control saying I saw a bear, believing that it wouldn't be taken serious if i said what i know I saw. There were cattle near by that needed protection.

OTHER WITNESSES: no

TIME AND CONDITIONS: evening

ENVIRONMENT: there was a creek bottom culvert, pine forest, a swamp like area on the other side.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matt Pruitt:

I accompanied the witness to the location of the sighting and interviewed her at length about her experience.

She was traveling north on Hwy 75 towards Helen, just after sundown on Thanksgiving night, 1999. Hers was the only vehicle in the vicinity at the time. As she drove over a small rise, her headlights pointed down the road and illuminated a large, bipedal figure beginning to cross the road. Upon seeing the figure, she slammed on the brakes and slowed to a stop to within a few yards of it. It strode across the road swinging its arms as it walked. It had stopped in mid-stride as she approached it, and froze, arms extended. It stood completely still momentarily, then slowly turned its head toward her, and looked directly at her vehicle. After several seconds of it standing and staring towards her, it took a few steps and leaped down the embankment in the direction it was initially traveling (West to East).

The animal was completely illuminated by her headlights. She described it as much taller than an average person, covered in dark hair, with little to no hair on its face. She described the color of its skin as a light gray/brown. Its build was lean and muscular, not overly robust or bulky.

The sighting took place in an area where a prominent creek passes under the road. The creature had climbed up the left embankment from the creek, and followed it across to the right embankment.

There are other reports from the area of sasquatches sighted along these waterways.
