I dropped my buddy off at the farm house down the rd from the property we hunt in Toronto Ohio. It was around 830am. He was picking up a tractor, I dropped him off and continued up the rd 600 yards to the property. I pulled up the driveway to the hangar we call it/barn. I looked out the field about 350-400 yards right about where the field rolls off the backside. I seen something black standing there. Now once I spotted it. It started moving, right away I knew it wasn’t a deer or a turkey or a coyote it was way to big. It took a couple steps, now while I could not see its legs I knew it was moving across the field. It went about 15 yards and stopped for a few seconds. Which at the time I looked down for my binos which I did not have. And when I looked back up it continued on and was gone in about 5 seconds. Now it moved like a person, but was taller and black. And wasn’t the shape of a bear on 4 legs it was long and upright. Then encounter in total was about 15 seconds. I’ve been in the woods hunting since I was 12. I’ve seen deer, bear, elk, coyotes, dogs, just about everything the woods around here have. And I can for certain say that this was none of that.
OTHER WITNESSES: None, just me
TIME AND CONDITIONS: About 830 am. Kinda sunny, but cold. Around 35 degreees.
ENVIRONMENT: The animal was observed crossing the field. Coming from a power line that runs through a ravine. Deer use this a lot for bedding and it gets very thick.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator James Thompson:
I contacted the witness the day the report posted, but due to family circumstances we were unable to get together right away. When we made contact again, we arranged to meet at the location of the sighting.
I arrived first and parked to the rear of an airplane hanger alongside a hilltop airstrip. I got out of my truck and walked to the front of the hanger to wait on the witness. He had sent me a pin, so I was able to look out over the field in the direction of the sighting. At first I thought he was punking me because at the end of the field was a tall black object that I thought was a bigfoot silhouette. I watched it for a few minutes and it didn't move so I thought it might be a very large game feeder.
I walked back to my truck to wait for the witness and he arrived a few minutes later. We introduced ourselves and he had me pull our trucks up to the far side of the hangar were he had his sighting.
The day of the sighting, he had let his buddy out of the truck then pulled up to the side of the hangar to park. As he went to get out, he saw a tall black object on the far crest of the hill near the back of the field. It started moving to the left then stopped. He looked in the truck to find his binoculars but when he looked up it was moving again. We would later range that it covered about 150 yards in less than 15 seconds.
Before we drove out to the crest of the hill I asked him to come over to the front of the hangar so I could point out what I was looking at when I arrived. When we got to where I was standing, the object that was there 20 minutes earlier was gone. Now I can't wait to get out to the end of this field.
The airfield was not very long in that direction before it turned into a hay field with mowed paths that headed to their hunting area. We stopped just before the crest and I noticed how the land dropped down and away towards the tree line about 150 yards from the crest. The witness and his friend had been prepping the area for a food plot for the fall deer season by tilling up the ground in preparation for planting. They had tilled it after the sighting so there was little chance of finding tracks. But first, I positioned myself inline of the hangar and tree line to see if there was any evidence of what I saw while he drove back to the hangar so we could recreate his sighting.
With the use of walkie-talkies, he guided me to where he first saw the creature. He described seeing it from the waist up, that put me at about 15 feet from the crest of the hill in the tilled area where he could see me from the waist up. I raised my hands above my head holding my sweatshirt to make it more visible and the witness called to tell me that was the height of what he saw. I am 5'10, with my arms raised holding a bundled up sweatshirt made me about 8 1/2 feet tall. After using a range finder, the distance between me and the witness was 375 yards. I then had him position me where he saw the creature move to. That distance was 50 yards farther. I then ranged it from that position to the treeline and it was 150 yards.
At that point he radioed me that he had to get the tractor out of the hangar for his hunting buddy, so I took the time to look for any disturbance in the soil from the object I saw. I was moving making a grid search looking at the ground when my phone rang. It was my girlfriend who was back in my truck watching me. She said that she could see something black, low to the crest of the hill behind me near the tree line. By the time I turned to look it was gone. I went to that area to look for tracks but could not find any there either.
The witness returned in his truck to pick me up and we both searched the ground for awhile but found nothing.
The witness has been hunting that area for over 15 years and this was the first time he has encountered anything like this.
This is the third report I have investigated for the BFRO that has taken place within 5 miles of each other in the last year in this area. The area is heavily wooded, broken up by powerline and pipeline cuts. These high ridges have ravines on the northwest and many hollars and 'Runs' that lead down to the Ohio River.
