New York, North Central - Tracks
These tracks were found and photographed on March 18th in the north-central area of New York by a local, avid hunter/outdoorsman . The witness called a good friend to come take a look. Together they analysed the tracks - even finding toe impressions in the tracks pictured with the dollar bill.
The primary witness (44 yrs old, hunting for over 35 yrs) lives 500 yards from where the prints were found. Five to six days prior to the track find at 1:30am, he heard what sounded like three tree knocks sounding from the area where the tracks were to be found. His dog was outside with him at the time and proceeded to lay on its belly. It took several minutes to coax the dog into the house. The dog, a 120lb Chesapeake, would not leave the house for 3 days after the knocks were heard. When the witness happened upon the tracks, his dog found the scent and proceeded to follow the tracks, but only to a certain point where it stopped and would not proceed - not because the tracks ended, but rather, because the dog was hesitant to continue (which, according to the owner is not typical behavior at all).
Several broken sumacs and willow saplings with diameters up to four inches were also found the same day not far from where the tracks were found. **Editor's note: Photos of the twists/breaks can be found via a link on the Public Forum under 'Recordings', sub-section 'Post Links To Images/Videos Here'.
Because of the urgency of the situation, a BFRO Investigator went to the area to investigate the location and meet with the witness. Below is his write up about what he found.
I just returned from New York. I arrived there just before 3am on Monday, March 23rd. I thermalled the general area for 3hrs. I may have had a return call/whoop. I will need to review my DVR.
I was able to see the tracks that were sent to me, although there wasn't much left of them - most of the ice has melted. Because of the bizarre weather this winter, I'm inclined to believe that many layers of ice, slush, and snow probably made walking on ice difficult - even if it was slush on top (ice on bottom). This could account for the splayed tracks. The step, from left to right, was probably around 3ft (heel to heel). This figure is based on a picture the reportee, showed me of himself stepping (uncomfortably I might add) beside the tracks.
The area where the tracks were found is a rather swampy tract of forest, and up until a few days ago, was mostly covered with a thick layer of ice - which would make walking through there difficult and dangerous at best.
The witness has more hunting experience than any one I know. He's an articulate, ultra-intelligent, retired former military man. Having grown up in the area, he knows those woods like the back of his hand. The prints are not large by any means. I would estimate the tracks to be 13-14 inches in length and approx 3-4 inches in width at the heel (this is based on the dollar bill placed beside some of the prints). The witness states that both he and a buddy were able to feel toe impressions in the prints (although the photos don't clearly show toe impressions). For what it's worth, I don't think the prints are human. The area is desolate and swampy. And, after seeing the twists and breaks of 7 sumacs and willows, there appears to be a correlation between the tracks and the tree manipulations.
There has been activity not far from this area since 2000, including Class A and Class B activity. Nothing had been noticed by the witness previously. There was a story that he retold to me from an old timer who saw a female BF in the area some 20 years ago. .
My feeling is that the sasquatch are following the deer. The deer are coming to witness' house for the feedings he leaves out, and then hunkering down across the road. I saw their beds and droppings within 100ft of the twists. Strangely, the deer have not returned to the witness' backyard since he found the tracks.
