While target shooting a family observes a large bi-ped in a blackberry patch near the town of Rainier

YEAR: 2012

SEASON: Spring

MONTH: March

DATE: 20

STATE: Washington

COUNTY: Thurston County

LOCATION DETAILS: (Exact location details edidted by the investigator to protect the location)

NEAREST TOWN: Rainer

NEAREST ROAD: Johnson Creek

OBSERVED: On wed march 20,2012 My 2, sons J and T, and 2 friends S and T along with myself, went out to target practice outside the town of Rainer, Wash.

It was about 5:40 when we came through a hay field and stopped to decide where we should go next. I was looking across the field scanning the tree line that runs along the edge of the river. At the far southwest end of the field I notice a figure getting up out of a blackberry patch. It was huge and dark. I couldnt tell how tall it was but I could tell it was massive. Big shoulders long arms and wide body all covered in brown hair. The hair on it head looked like it went to its shoulders. It stood up and walk from the center of the patch to the trail in front of it. I brought it to the attention of the others with me as it crossed the trail and stood next to a fir tree it looked back at us. It turned and walked south into the next hay field and towards the southwest corner. We ran to were we saw it. We found nothing. The blackberry bushes looked like something used it as a bed, all the branches were bent down flat. We compared the fir tree with my son T to get an idea of how tall it was, my son is 6ft and the creature was at least 8.5 we took pictures then followed the grass trail it left behind (We could see where it went across the field in bent grass) and into the second field and stopped at the edge of the third and noticed that ahead of us the birds flew out of the trees making alot of noise. a few minutes later we heard dogs barking in the distance but not to far. Then we heard a load knocking sound for 5 or 6 beats. Everything went real quiet then we heard what sounded like a popping sound followed by several hoots. We waited in the trees for several more minutes but heard and saw nothing out of place

ALSO NOTICED: We followed it into the second field and stoped at the edge of the third and noticed that ahead of us the birds flew out of the trees making alot of noise. a few minutes later we heard dogs barking in the distance but not to far. Then we heard a load knocking sound for 5 or 6 beats. Everything went real quiet then we heard what sounded like a popping sound followed by several hoots

OTHER WITNESSES: There were 5 of us all hiking into the field

OTHER STORIES: yes but ive never told anyone. 2 other incidents that I know of. But I have never really seen 1 till today

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 5:30 pm cloudy no wind 37 degrees good light

ENVIRONMENT: hay fields with partial divided by rows of trees. One side banked by the river swampland and blackberries other side road then forest. Fishermen in area further up river.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:

I interviewed this witness over the phone. I know this location very well as I have archery hunted the area many times. This witness is also a hunter, and being retired, spends a lot of time camping and hiking in this general area. When I read his report, I knew exactly where it was.

He also noted a reference object, a limb on a tree that it pushed aside, so they could judge the height of the creature. Additional details: he said that the hair on the head was long, like a person with long hair, the body hair was shorter, and course looking, and he could clearly see the long “fringe hair” on the back of the arms move as it walked. They could clearly see the “fringe hair” as it pushed the limb to one side. I observed this same “fringe hair” imprinted on the Skookum Cast. It is like the long hairs on the back of the legs of a golden retriever dog. The color was very dark brown.

He said it stood up in a very natural, easy, fluid, manner. It walked with a lumbering, yet lanky walk, with big arm swings.

I went to the location, following the witness’ route. I was able to find the exact spot and take some photographs. It was just as described. I followed the trail through the next field and on down to the forest and river. There are a lot of elk trails there, as the elk access the hay fields from across the river. He mentioned that they hurried over to the blackberry patch to see if they could still see it crossing the next field. The distance across that field, going diagonal NE corner to SW corner is about 500 yards. The distance from where the creature was, to the far side of the second field was about 400 yards. It would have had no trouble making it to the river and forest beyond before they could get to where they might observe it further.

This picture shows the berry patch and trees from the vantage point of the witness.

This picture shows the berry patch from the opposite side. The arrows depict where the creature moved as it left the area.

They got a very good look at the creature. Although it was almost 500 yards away, it was large enough to stand out and be seen clearly. Added to this is the report of the wood knocks and the hooting. With five witnesses seeing the creature, I have no doubt that this was a sasquatch.
