Report # 71792  (Class B)
Submitted by witness Charles Davidson on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Chatter and knock heard on the Broad River, 5 miles NE of Gaffney

YEAR: 2021

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

DATE: 30

STATE: South Carolina

COUNTY: Cherokee County

LOCATION DETAILS: Big Bay Access Area, at the end of Sarratt Road on the Broad River.

Coordinates: 35.148116618689365, -81.60891823376281

NEAREST TOWN: Gaffney

NEAREST ROAD: Sarratt Road

OBSERVED: I was camping with my stepdaughter and one of her friends at the Big Bay Access Area on the Broad River. Upon arrival at the campsite at 12:30 AM, as is our custom, my stepdaughter did a 2-3 second howl and I did a heavy growl. Immediately thereafter, we heard creature chatter from across the parking lot (100-150 yards away), followed seconds later by a wood knock from the same direction but further away. I found a large stick and answered with two wood knocks, but got no response.

ALSO NOTICED: We departed the camp site in two vehicles at 4:30 AM. Approximately 3/4 mile up the road, a large doe ran between the two vehicles, which were approximately 20' apart. The deer was in a "run for your life" dead sprint, coming from large residential yards to a thick forest. We did not see or hear anything else.

OTHER WITNESSES: There were three witnesses (myself, my stepdaughter and her friend). No one else was in the area.

OTHER STORIES: My wife and I were fishing at night along the Waccamaw River, near Myrtle Beach, SC in 2014. As we were driving directly toward the river, a soccer ball size rock was thrown in our direction from the thicket on the opposite shore. We saw the rock's entire flight, as it was in our headlights. The rock traveled at least 40' and was never higher than about 8'. We do not believe a human could do this.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: The temperature was about 45F. The ground was damp from recent rains and was covered with fallen leaves. The sky was clear.

ENVIRONMENT: Forested river bottoms and open grassy areas, with gentle hills.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Bill Hanna:

I spoke with the witness via phone on Monday, November 1, 2021. We spoke about the event in general terms and agreed to meet at the site the following day. All three witnesses were present. We walked the areas of interest and spoke about the event in detail.

While Charles and I walked the area, the other witnesses made a few howls from the camping area. They heard multiple short howls from across the river, approximately 150 yards away. When Charles and I returned to the camping area, Charles heard another short howl and I heard a grunt.

The witness is ex-military and ex-law enforcement, so his observations skills were keen and descriptions detailed. He has also done a good bit of personal research into the sasquatch subject. I believe the witness is very credible.

The area has ample clean water, grassy areas, thick forest and ample food for deer and other animals. It appears to be good habitat for sasquatches.
