Camper experiences strange night time visitor near Groveland

YEAR: 1985

SEASON: Summer

DATE: none

STATE: California

COUNTY: Tuolumne County

LOCATION DETAILS: Just somewhere northwest of Groveland, California

NEAREST TOWN: Groveland; California

NEAREST ROAD: there wasn't one

OBSERVED: No, this was not a visual sighting, I only heard this.... It happened a few years ago, when I was camping in a remote area around Yosemite National Park. It was very late, my friends had already went to thier tents to sleep. They were Dome-type tents, and mine was about 40 or 50 yards away from the others.
Anyway, I had just turned off my radio (with headphones), and was drifting off to sleep, when I heard these heavy-sounding footsteps moving around my tent. Talk about being petrified, because I sure was!! I have lived around farm animals for most of my life and I know about what size this creature was, by just the sound. It was bigger than a bear; besides bears can't walk on thier rear-legs for that long.

ALSO NOTICED: After I had ran to my friend's tent, I told him about what happened and asked if he heard anything. He said "No". But he did mention how quiet it was. No crickets, either. Next morning, I asked my other friends if they heard me scream, and they also said, "No".

OTHER WITNESSES: None, I couldn't believe that they didn't hear me scream.

OTHER STORIES: No, but my Mom knew Mr.Patterson, the guy who took those now famouse home-movies of bigfoot; and living up in Seattle and Yakima Washington; I heared stories.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: very dark, a little light from the stars

ENVIRONMENT: Pine forest, pine needles on the ground, with long grass scattered spradically

Follow-up investigation report:

I talked with witness by phone. Witness and two friends were camping for three months northwest of Groveland. This incident happened the first night of their trip. No other incidents happened the remainder of their time there. Witness also noted in his report that there were no cricket sounds that night, and he further noted that he did not see any animals at all during the entire trip (no deer or bear, etc.). Witness also noted that due to the remote location of the camp, he does not believe that the sounds could have been made by another camper.
