Submitted by witness R. W. on Sunday, October 3, 1999.
Witness observed "thing" walk briskly away
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1999

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

DATE: 3

STATE: Oregon

COUNTY: Jackson County

LOCATION DETAILS: Just West of Crater Lake National Park near Union creek.

OBSERVED: I was deer hunting on the east slope of a very steep hillside & saw movement about 70 yards down & away from me. I started to bring my rifle up but realized it was too dark & tall to be a deer. I saw this "thing" walk through the trees & even though it was very dry & crunchy in the woods it made no sound. I saw it walk very briskly for about 40 yards and then turned down the slope & out of sight.

ALSO NOTICED: The following day in an area a few miles away we found unusually large dung piles (full of berry remains)& my hunting partner & I thought they were from a very big bear & even then thought it would be difficult for a bear to pass such a large diameter stool.

OTHER WITNESSES: Deer Hunting

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Second day of deer season, aproximately 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.

ENVIRONMENT: Approx 4500 ft elevation level, timbered, dry forest on a steep slope.
