RECENT: Daylight sighting of a sasquatch by a hiker 53 miles NE of Boise, near Deadwood Dam
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2026
SEASON: Spring MONTH: June DATE: 06/13/2026 STATE: Idaho COUNTY: Valley County LOCATION DETAILS: Investigator MM notes:
Approximate GPS coordinates (within 100 feet) for where the sasquatch was seen: 44.291233, -115.645192 NEAREST TOWN: Lowman Idaho NEAREST ROAD: Off highway 21 OBSERVED: My name is Donald. I'm 50 yrs old and have lived in Boise idaho since 1978. I hike and camp regularly up at Deadwood Reservoir just north of Boise. More times than not I see black bears, moose, deer and even an occasional wolf. Last weekend I was hiking above the dam when I saw slight movement up a hill about 60-70 yards away. I stopped to watch for a moment thinking maybe bear or mtn lion. After watching for about a minute this animal stood up on two legs and briefly looked towards me then turned uphill and began to quickly walk. I lost sight after 15-20 seconds.
What I saw was not a bear or any other animal I recognize. I wasn't afraid but I was uncertain and confused. What I saw looked to be between 5ft and 6ft tall with long reddish hair. Its head was tall and its neck looked like it wasn't there, just a head sitting on human like shoulders. I didn't see alot of facial features other than the face was covered in hair.
I went directly back to camp and made lunch and just reflecting on what I saw. I was planning on staying 3 more days but packed up and left that next morning. I feel like I know what I saw but reluctant to tell anyone. I've always thought of sasquatch as a myth and nothing more. I know what I saw and it was something im not sure I was meant to see. My brother has always claimed to have had a sighting in 1991 above McCall idaho and I always laughed at him and teased him and told him he was full of spit. Now I'm not so sure. ALSO NOTICED: No OTHER WITNESSES: Just myself. I heard what sounded like deep pig grunts. The walk was very human like but the torso was longer than the legs, the arms very human like. They were also disproportionate. They were very long. The size was not real tall but very bulky in the chest and shoulders. The color was almost like a cinnamon black bear with much longer hair OTHER STORIES: I have not heard of anything TIME AND CONDITIONS: It was around 11:30AM. It was hot and sunny but where the creature was it was shady under tree canopy ENVIRONMENT: Secluded reservoir in the mountains covered in thick pine. Above the dam there is a large creek system that flows into the river. Very isolated but easy access
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:
I spoke with witness Donny Schmidt. He is a credible witness. He is the 50 year old manager of an Army-Navy surplus store just outside Boise. He has hiked around Deadwood Reservoir for years. Over the years he has seen many different types of animals around there -- many bears, deer, a mountain lion, wolves, marten and moose.
Donny was roughly 300 yards south of Deadwood Dam, 30-40 feet from Scott Mountain Road when the sighting occurred. The sasquatch was 60-70 yards uphill from his position.
I asked about the color of the fur of the creature. Specifically I asked how it would compare to the color of orangutan fur. He said it was darker red color than an orangutan. It was very broad for its height and seemed like it had no neck, as if the head just sits on its shoulders.
He knew very little about the subject, and was an ardent skeptic about it his whole life, until this incident. He had not heard about the report involving the 10 teenagers near Lost Valley Lake over Memorial Day Weekend (2026). After this incident he felt like he should report the sighting somewhere.
