NEAREST TOWN: Shaver Lake NEAREST ROAD: Dinkey Creek Rd OBSERVED: Taking my grandson to his summer job at BSA Camp. Driving onto Camp Rd off Dinkey Creek Rd almost at the beginning of Chawanakee Rd. I looked over at my grandson. My eyes carried further and I saw a figure standing in the field. It was facing south Brownish red hair that I could plainly see skin through it. Small head like right on its shoulders. Long arms past knees. I couldn't see its face or front of body. It was standing in grass so I couldn't see feet. It didnt move. Stood frozen as I very slowly drove past. Im reporting this today because I went back and took a good look, making sure I didnt see a stump or something. Nope. 100% I saw what I saw. OTHER WITNESSES: My grandson was in my truck with me. OTHER STORIES: Yes but further northeast past Shaver Lake. TIME AND CONDITIONS: Close to 11 a.m. Clear no fog/rain ENVIRONMENT: Forested, but I saw it in a cleared area for high power lines. I took pictures of the area
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:
I spoke with witness Linda Dixon-Smith. She is a very credible witness: - 72 years old - Born in San Francisco and has lived in various parts of northern California, working mostly with horses on ranches. - She was the Lake County supervior for the US Census Burea during the 2000 census. - More recently she served for four years as the equestrain director for the large Boy Scouts camp (Camp Chawanakee) on the south side of Shaver Lake.
Her twenty-something grandson works at Camp Chawanakee now. She was driving him to work at that Boy Scouts (BSA) camp when she had the sighting.
I had her look at aerial photos (Google Maps satellite images) of the area around the intersection of Dinkey Creek Road and Chawanakee Road so she could pinpoint the spot where the creature was standing.
On Chawanakee Road, 100 yards north of the T-bone intersection at Dinkey Road, there are power lines (or telephone lines) running East-West over Chawanakee road. On the east side of road there is a power pole not far from the road. The sasquatch was standing more or less directly under those power lines (or telephone lines) roughly one quarter of the distance from that pole nearest the road to the next pole.
She was driving very slow because the speed limit is15 miles per hour there. She looked to the right out the window and got a very good look at the sasquatch. She only saw the right side of it as it was facing south toward Dinkey Creek Road.
The sasquatch had reddish fur that was thin enough to show the skin under the fur. The skin was color was slightly lighter than the color of buckskin.
It was standing in grass that came halfway up to its knees. She estimates the height may have been around 8 feet tall.
She returned to the area again yesterday to take photos (see photo below showing the power poles) and make very sure there was no tree stump there creating an illusion.
There are several *unpublished* sighting reports from over the years from the Dinkey Creek Road area. About 10 years ago I looked around in the woods at one of those locations that was only about 350 yards away from the place that Linda had her sighting a few days ago. That is why I am so sure she saw a sasquatch there.
The BFRO does not have any investigators in the Shaver Lake area, but I think this is a job for the Boy Scouts. There's a bunch of them about a mile away on Shaver Lake right now. They all must know this sighting spot because they have to pass it when they come and go from that BSA camp.
The forests around Shaver Lake have been one of the bigfoot sighting hotspots for the California Sierra mountains for many years. The Finding Bigfoot team filmed part of a episode there over ten years ago due to the number of witnesses around there. I returned there on another occassion with Jessica Chobot to look around. During the Finding Bigfoot shoot more than 10 years ago I was personally approached by a local sheriff deputy who told me about his Class A daylight sighting near there. He couldn't go on camera to tell his story, but it was a good one. It is a very, very squatchy area.
