Two sportsmen see a sasquatch along the Hoh River near Forks
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1974

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

DATE: around the 20th

STATE: Washington

COUNTY: Jefferson County

NEAREST TOWN: forks wa.

NEAREST ROAD: 101

OBSERVED: It was opening day of deer season. It was the middle of Oct. I was with a friend. We hunted the lower Hoh in the morning. The road is called Oil City Rd. At about 11.30 am we decided to take drive in the Olympic National park to see if we could see big bull elk. In those days the natives hadn't killed them all. As we were about halfway coming out on the park road, my friend got very excited and told me to stop. As I looked across the Hoh River there was a Bigfoot in front of a big log. My friend said it was running on two legs. Both of us did not believe in them until that day. It was sunny and clear. We know what we saw.

OTHER WITNESSES: One, sitting in my car.

OTHER STORIES: Friend who has passed I told him the story about 20 years later because he and a friend had fished the Hoh for years. Then about five years later he stopped me in the hallway at work and said he remembered the story I told him about seeing a Bigfoot on the Hoh. He said fishing buddy who he said was very honest was driving to go fishing in the Hoh park in the morning and a bigfoot crossed twenty yards in front of him.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: About noon, It was sunny.

ENVIRONMENT: Along a big river.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:

I called this witness. He was a very experienced hunter and super familiar with almost every area of Western Washington. There were areas that he was telling me about with specific details that I was also very familiar with, so his knowledge of the area is validated in my opinion.

The witness’s account. The witness was deer hunting October 1974 over near a coastal community called Oil City. He had a friend along who was a fisherman and he had dropped him off to fish while he went deer hunting, agreeing to meet up at 11:00AM. After a few hours of hunting, he picked up his friend and they decided to drive up the North Hoh River Road to Olympic National Park to see if they could see the elk that are usually in that area. He had not intent to hunt them and actually had removed the bolt from his rifle so nobody could accuse him of hunting in the park, which is illegal.

They drove to the ranger station and started driving back towards Hwy 101. About half way back to Hwy 101 they came to one of the places where the road runs right next to the Hoh River. His friend looked towards the river and seeing something shouted, “Stop. Stop!”. He stopped the vehicle just out of sight of the river, so they got out and walked back to where he could see the river about 30 yards back. When they did that, they saw a sasquatch on the far side of the river near a large log. It was focused on something up river, bending over forward and moving its head up and down as if it is trying to see something. Then it turned its attention to rolling big rocks over, appearing to be looking for something under the rocks. The witness and his friend moved to a different location on the road to get a better look at it. When they did that, the sasquatch saw them and disappeared into the riverside brush. His friend later told him that when he first saw it, it was running on two legs along the river bank. His friend also mentioned that he thought that he saw a second sasquatch running back in the brush further upstream.

Due to the distance, he didn’t get to see any fine details. He said that it was black in color. He estimated it to be over 6 feet tall.

This is a good historical report. After 52 years, the witness was unable to provide the exact location along the Hoh River. The area is well known for having a significant sasquatch population. I have talked to tribal people who live in the area and they validate that as being true.
