RECENT Close-range multi-witness sighting 40 miles north of Tyler
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 2024

SEASON: Winter

MONTH: March

DATE: 15

STATE: Texas

COUNTY: Wood County

LOCATION DETAILS: It was on Fm 312 on the west side of the highway about 4.5 miles south of Winnsboro.

[See map graphics below]

NEAREST TOWN: Winnsboro, TX

NEAREST ROAD: Fm 312

OBSERVED: My wife and I saw something walking into the tree line near our home in Winnsboro, TX. It was enormous. At first I thought it was a cow or horse until I noticed it was taller and on two legs. I only saw its back, but it had to be four foot wide at the shoulders. It was covered in reddish brown hair that was around 6 inches long or so. We should have pulled over to look but it walked off into a pasture and my wife had no interest in that.

OTHER WITNESSES: It was my wife and myself.

OTHER STORIES: No

TIME AND CONDITIONS: It happened around 9:00pm. It was dark and we only saw it through the headlights of our suv. It had been raining earlier in the day so it was wet in the ditches.

ENVIRONMENT: It’s mostly pasture land with several acres of woods in the areas on the backside of these pastures.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:

I spoke with this witness at length by phone. Both he and his wife are in their 40's. They have two kids. Both husband and wife were born and raised in this area. Husband works in the oil fields. Wife work in the health care industry. Both are very credible.

They were heading north on FM 312, driving 55-60mph in a Ford Explorer in this very dark area around 9pm. Their car was the only car on that stretch of road when the sighting occurred.

Both saw a tall sasquatch clearly in the headlights. The figure was on left side of the road, 10 feet from road edge of the road. It was between road and treeline but closer to trees. It came into their view about 70 feet away, and they got closer as they passed it. They both looked at eachother, and he said "What the hell was that?!"

Aside from the height and fur color, the feature that stood out most was the long arms.

The sasquatch was facing away from the road the whole time, looking toward trees, as if it had just crossed the road before the couple spotted it. It was in motion but paused when high beams hit it. It continued moving toward the trees as they passed by it.

The couple lives a short distance from where they spotted the figure. When they got home the husband called his neighbor and they both walked out to the spot with spotlights but they saw nothing out there. The ground near the road was too hard, and the rest of the path was too grassy to see any distinct footprints.

The couple owns 40 acres close by. The husband says he used to see more deer in the area until the past couple years. In prior years they would see deer in their field almost daily.

They hear coyotes pretty consistently at night. That has not changed over the years. On rare occassion they hear about cougar sightings in the area, but not often. Some years back a cougar was spotted on their land.

He says a few nights ago his parents heard a loud strange scream. It was not a coyote. The parents also live within a few hundred feet of where the figure was sighted.

On the property of the witnesses there is a spring fed pond which runs year round. It has a spillway which drains in a second pond. This water source runs consistently even in extreme drought conditions.

This location is roughly half way between Lake Fork Reservoir and Lake Bob Sandlin Reservoir. There is a swampy creekbed with big pockets of dense woods 1.3 miles to the west -- Indian Creek. It runs north-south and feeds into Big Sandy Creek, which feeds into the Sabine River.

There is no big power tower route close by but it would not be as necessary for navigation in this environment where more than half the landscape is open fields. Radio towers in the distance have red lights on top which would serve as orientation landmarks at night.
