Youth has sighting from his backyard on Air Force Base
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1975

SEASON: Summer

STATE: Arkansas

COUNTY: Pulaski County

LOCATION DETAILS: The incident was in Pulaski County. Even though it happened at a military installation there were plenty of woods behind our house.

NEAREST TOWN: Jacksonville.

NEAREST ROAD: Ohio Circle.

OBSERVED: I've had two possible bigfoot encounters. The first occured in 1975 when I seven. My family lived at Little Rock AFB. At the time there were woods behind our house and a small lake as well. After school one day I was playing in my backyard. I looked up toward the woods and saw something squatting down next to a tree looking at me. It was covered in black hair except on its face and had as I remember a flattened nose and pointed head. I was stunned. I turned and ran into my house where I told my mom that I had just seen a gorilla. I knew that it wasn't a gorilla but that was the only thing I could think of to describe it. My mom thought I was playing around and didn't really believe me. When I looked back there again it was gone.

ALSO NOTICED: Nothing.

OTHER WITNESSES: Just me. I was playing in my backyard when the incident occured.

OTHER STORIES: After my family moved off base we lived in Jacksonville proper. We lived in a residential area close to the edge of town. Woods were nearby. For years there were stories of the Loop Road Monster. It was said to be white in color.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: afternoon. I can't remember the season. Probably late summer or early fall. It was sunny and warm.

ENVIRONMENT: Arkansas woods.

Follow-up investigation report:

The witness observed a very dark animal approximately 50 yards away from him, in a squatting position "like a man would squat." He stated there was a point (sagittal crest) to the top of the head. He stated the animal never moved from its position while he observed it, but appeared to be watching him from its vantage point. He stated it was very dark in color and looked to have hair and not fur, approximately four inches in length over its body. He was quite certain it was not a bear because the facial features were not that of a bear and its squatted position was unlike a bear, but in like fashion to the way a man squats. He stated he ran to tell his mother, but when he looked back to the area the animal was gone. He described it to his mother as a gorilla even though he knew at the time that it was not a gorilla, because that was the only thing he could think to call it.

The second roadside encounter in Carroll County in 1994 can be seen here Report #9507
