Local people record strange primate vocalizations in remote woods north of Nimrod (w/ recordings)
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 2008

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: August

DATE: the 11th

STATE: Minnesota

COUNTY: Cass County

NEAREST TOWN: nimrod

NEAREST ROAD: 18 off of 227

OBSERVED: Three nights ago some friends and i were out and about at a spot where we usually search for these creatures. and at least fifty percent of the time we can get audible results. But on this night it was the best. We could hear them out there for about an hour and a half vocalizing. the next night we couldn't go out again and waited until last night.

we brought a friend with us who never "bigfoot hunted" before but was curious about our stories. she being a experienced hunter and knowledgeable about the woods. That night was the best to date, and we thought that three nights ago was good.

at one point they were so close to us. i would say less than 75 yards. the sounds they make at that distance seem right on top of you. we could feel our chests vibrating.

my friend G had a digital camera with so we recorded the vocalizations. that night our curious friend agreed and told us nothing she has ever hunted makes those kinds of noises. we were afraid the camera might not pick up all the sounds. to our pleasant surprise it did. we would like to send you guys the recordings, to get the professional opinion though. thank you

ALSO NOTICED: sometimes we hear knocking as well. and about a month ago i stayed by the car but G and some of the others were chased out by something that seemed to be pacing in the woods and then was chasing right behind them. all of them got the feeling it was time to go but not that it wanted to hurt them. what it was is still unsure obviously they ran and didn't stay to find out. but they said it seemed to just want them out of there.

OTHER WITNESSES: three nights ago me(D) my wife(J)our friend(G) and new comer OUr friend(Av)
Last night me, J , G, and our hunter friend (Al)

OTHER STORIES: lately north of staples someone claims to have hit one in a van the articles are even published in the "Review Messenger" menahga newspaper. I dont know if i believe all of the details of the story though. i think that if it was a hoax though everybody even the people reporting were in on it. cause i can't imagine a hoaxer that would take a hit from a van and get shot at and not come forward at the sound of bullets coming your way and say ok the jokes up i was just having some fun dont kill me. Right now thats pretty big news up here anyway.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: off and on from11:00-1:00 lots of moonlight calm and quiet almost no wind perfect for listening

ENVIRONMENT: pine forest and bushes and brush some farmers live in the area and consequently there are also cow pastures and fields.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Andy P.:

(Update, 10/30/2008)

Public feedback about these sounds is pointing us in the direction of at least some of these calls being atypical cattle calls. On further discussion with the witness, he has noted that one farmer in the area does indeed have cattle, but that at the time these were recorded those cattle were not in this area. However, as we cannot rule out a loose bull or cow, we decided to note that here and let the listener decide for themselves.

I interviewed the witness by phone. I think he's credible and I have the following to add to his report.

- The area is adjacent to a very wild portion of MN. There are some farms, but lots of woodlands and swamps.

- The witnesses go to this area regularly, using knocks and their own voices to make whoop sounds to try to get a response.

- These sounds were recorded along a two-mile stretch of road.

- The witnesses say the animal(s) were moving eastward during this extended auditory observation.

- At one point during the incident the animals seemed to cover more than a half mile in about a minute, crossing a stream, rough land, a barbed-wire fence, and a road, in about one minute.

- The auditory observation lasted until the animals moved far off in the distance heading southeast, with sounds fading as they left.

- The witnesses submitted seven sound files with this report. We cropped those files to just the best, most audible parts. We also amplified the sounds so that they could be heard better (this was necessary due to the nature of the digital camera microphone and the way it picks up distant sounds).

[Editor's Note (MM)]: These sounds provided below could have only come from: 1) humans making very uncharacteristic sounds or 2) sasquatches making characteristic sounds, or 3) free ranging cattle (cows that are not fenced in) making very uncharacteristic sounds.

Certain sound characteristics in the beginning of the first clip sound like restless cattle, but soon the sound makers seem distinctly more primate-like than cow-like.

With a careful listen to these recordings one can agree that the only rational option is primate, namely humans or sasquatches.

The witness claims that similar sounds have been heard on previous visits to this same wild area. That means that a random third-party prankster/hoaxer scenario is very unlikely. Consequently, if the recordings are fake ... then our witness is necessarily one of the fakers.

By the same token, if the witness did not fake the recordings, then the recordings are most likely legitimate recordings of some primates that live out in this wild area.

BFRO Investigator Andy P. has conversed with the witness and believes he is credible.
