Mother and son have a possible early morning sighting near Eagle Creek
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
COUNTY: Carroll County
NEAREST TOWN: Sanders (Carrollton)
NEAREST ROAD: Sighting on HWY 36
OBSERVED: On Jan 14th, 2010, I was taking my son to school on Hwy. 36, outside of Sanders. We were following a Ford Ranger and were probably 30-40 foot behind it. I noticed something run quickly in front of that truck. I did not see the thing run from the opposite side of the road, though obviously thatís where it came from. I noticed it when it was right in the middle of the road. Iím guessing that the truck is between 5í and 6í tall. From my view, behind the truck, I could still see about 1í of the thing over the top of the cab before it came back into full view and went up into the woods that run right by the road. During the second or two that it came back into full view after crossing in front of the truck, I was able to see itís silhouette fully in the headlights from the truck. It was on two legs, dark in color, wide (depth of the body, from back to chest-I donít mean the broadness of the shoulders as I saw it from the side), large legs and very tall. Because of itís position and it being dark out, I was not able to see the face or front of it. Iím not able to give any description of the fur or hair that was covering it either. I wish I could tell you that I saw a Bigfoot. Since I canít say that for sure, I will tell you what I did NOT see, for sure. I did not see a deer, elk, bear or man.
The truck in front of me hit his breaks during my sighting so there is no doubt to me that he saw it as well. I should tell you that this thing crossed closely in front of him. It wasnít like it was a great distance in front of him. I wanted to run up and talk to the man in the truck when we got to the end of the road but didnít because I didnít want to scare my son (who is already afraid to play outside out house by himself).
As soon as this vanished from my sight, my little boy gasped and yelled, ďDid you see that?Ē. I responded calmly telling him that I had and asked him what he thought it was. He was unsure but said that it was big and quick. I didnít ask any more questions at that time as I didnít want to scare him or lead him in any way. I wanted to see what he would say about it after the Ďshockí (?) had wore off. I asked him again this morning (Jan. 21st) what he thought it was. He said that he didnít know. I asked him what size he thought it was and he said medium sized. I told him that I was a little over 5í and told him to guess a size in feet and he said around 5í.
ALSO NOTICED: Not sure...see below.
OTHER WITNESSES: My 9 year old son was in the car with me and saw it too. We were on our way to school. One thing that I feel that I MUST mention. I am very interested in Bigfoot. Some would say an (obsession)? I would have NEVER told anyone about this because of that, IF my child had NOT been with me and saw this as well.
OTHER STORIES: There are two things that I should mention. About 2 or 3 years ago, we were in the backyard at night w/a fire going in our fire pit. Weíve heard all kinds of noises back there but one night in particular we heard what we thought sounded like something grabbing a smaller animal and dragging it off. We heard a brief scream from the animal we think was grabbed and then dead silence. We have seen eyes (in the dark when flashing a light) back there many times. One night we saw several big eyes up off the ground.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Morning just before daylight (between 7:20-7:35). It was a cold but clear morning.
ENVIRONMENT: The area is hilly, small mountains, thick woods, creeks, streams, ponds and farms. I guess it would be considered rugged back countryside? There are several pine trees that run along HWY 35 and roads off of it.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Rachel Luffman:
I spoke to the witness on the phone and found her to be credible. I can add the following details to her report:
- She estimates the creature to have been less than 20 feet in front of the truck she was behind. If it hadn't moved so fast, she believes it would have been hit.
- It was dark out, but she could clearly see the size and shape of the creature from the illumination of the truck's headlights.
- The height was probably between six and a half to seven feet tall. The body was thick and the legs "looked like big human legs".
