2 men hear vocalization while calling up coyoties
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1981

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

DATE: 15

STATE: Tennessee

COUNTY: Tipton County

LOCATION DETAILS: Between Ruleman Rd. and Coon Valley Rd. on a slough bank in the Mississippi river bottom.

NEAREST TOWN: Drummonds

NEAREST ROAD: Coon Valley Rd.

OBSERVED: A friend and I were useing a wounded rabbit call to
call up coyoties. We were sitting in a field, about an acre. this thing came
up and it sounded like it started to belly ache, I figured, because we were
in the field. I have been inside the lion house at feeding time, those lions
didn't have anything on this thing! We never saw it, it wouldn't step out
into the light, but it cried about 12 to 15 times, when it stoped I really
worried where it was and what it was! I left and didn't go back for about
two weeks.

OTHER WITNESSES: 2

TIME AND CONDITIONS: night time

ENVIRONMENT: wooded area , slough bank

Follow-up investigation report:

Primary BFRO Investigator: Dan Jackson

The sound the witness heard was a two-toned sound, between a roar and a cry. He further stated that it was much louder and with more volume than lions he had heard at the zoo. He estimated the source of the spond was approx. 120 ft. away from the truck. It kept moving and vocalized approx. 10-15
times. The witness attempted to get a light(100,000 candlepower) on the source of the sound, but was unable to.
The witness returned to the area 2 weeks later during the day to look for tracks, but found none. The witness was afraid
the entire time he was in the area, and left quickly. The vocalization soundsed as if what ever made it was upset or worried.
