Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:

I spoke with witness Louis Dix. He is a very credible 60 year old hunter from southern Oregon who is quite certain that he heard wood knocks that were loud and heavy.

If you have been following reports posted by the BFRO for some time you will be aware of how many occur near the Pacific Crest Trail, especially in Oregon and Washington State.

Witness Louis Dix and his wife are also birders (bird watchers). They are very familiar with the sound of woodpeckers. What Louis heard on October 20th near Hyatt Lake was defintely not woodpeckers. It was loud heavy wood knocks very close to the Pacific Crest Trail -- loud enough to scare him, even though he was carrying a hunting rifle.

It is quite possible in this case that whatever was making the wood knock sounds had spotted this witness through the timber because he was wearing hunter orange. Hunter orange cannot be seen by deer or elk by it is likely as visible to a bigfoot as it is to humans.

Anyone hiking the Pacific Crest Trail should be vigilant The best way to trace the path of the Pacific Crest Trail is through this web site which has an interactive map of the trail.
