Fisherman hears heavy wood knocks 1 mile below Trinity Dam
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2022
SEASON: Fall MONTH: November DATE: 5 STATE: California COUNTY: Trinity County LOCATION DETAILS: [See maps and captions below] NEAREST TOWN: Lewiston NEAREST ROAD: 299 OBSERVED: On November 5, 2022 between 8:05 and 8:08am I heard consecutive tree knocks. I was fishing alone at Lewiston Lake, fairly close to the Trinity Dam, California. Very foggy, and drizzle type rain that day. Starting at 8:05am; I heard one very loud, but distant knock of a tree, by another tree limb. That’s the only sound I could attribute it to. It came from far above my location; but in a later Google earth search, could find no houses anywhere near there. Two more solid knocks in close succession, about 1 minute or so after the first. Hard to tell time when you’re fishing; but I’m pretty sure of the approximation. I don’t think any human goes around knocking trees in the early November gloom. ALSO NOTICED: Just the time of day, season, and conditions were unusual for human activity OTHER WITNESSES: No OTHER STORIES: Yes; Many sightings in the area. Also has prolific deer population TIME AND CONDITIONS: 8:05-8:08am ENVIRONMENT: Reservoir on the backside of Dam. Very wooded area. Many steep hills
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:
I spoke with witness Kurt Hakmiller by phone. He is credible and this incident really happened. There have been several other bigfoot related incidents in this vicinity over the years.
Kurt says he would not have been visible to whatever was making the knocks up near the ridge where he indicated with his pin (see below). The knocks were definitely wood on wood, and much louder than he would have been able to do himself. The knock sounds reverberated and echoed down into the gorge below.
Kurt has fished for trout in this area several times in the past but never heard this sound before. He says the road visible on aerial images up slope from the ridge he indicated is the road to the heli-base for fire fighting helicopters (1.3 miles west of knock location). He doesn't know if it's open to the public but suspects it is gated.
Even though this incident occurred a few years ago, this location is a promising area to listen for more sounds and potentially spot a bigfoot on the slopes above. There is a public campground nearby.
