Loud bigfoot whoops heard by homeowners not far from last year's sighting outside Toronto, Ohio
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 2026

SEASON: Spring

MONTH: May

DATE: May 1st

STATE: Ohio

COUNTY: Jefferson County

LOCATION DETAILS: [Investigator (MM) Notes:
The GPS is not provided because this was not a sighting with a specific point. The sounds were heard from south of a residence near the west side of "Dyer Airport" (grass landing strip). The sounds were coming from the flanks of a steep wooded ravine that descends down to Wildcat Hollow. The property is 1.7 miles NW of the center of Toronto, Ohio. See maps below.]

NEAREST TOWN: Toronto

NEAREST ROAD: Township Road 245

OBSERVED: Wife let our dogs out to pee and she heard a whoop from inside the house. She opened the door to see what the noise was and heard it again, ran in the house. I seen her physically shaking and was worried about the dogs. We went outside together and heard a load whoop down the hollow.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 5:30 am , 45° very foggy

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator James Thompson:

I met the witnesses at the residence where the vocalizations were heard. The wife was the first to hear the vocals. There was an uneasiness in her voice as she was reliving it again while she recounted the experience to me.

Around 5:30AM she had just let her two small dogs out and stepped back into the covered porch and shut the door when she heard a loud "WHOOOP" coming from the woods about 100 feet behind the house. She opened the door and stepped back out when it whooped again. It was very loud and had a deep resonating sound to it. She immediately rushed back inside and went to get her husband who was just finishing brushing his teeth.

The husband's description of his wife was that her her eyes were very wide opened, she was pale and shaking. She told him that she had just heard something very close out back and did not know what it was. When they went back outside together and got the dogs back in, there was another whoop from farther down the hollar near the opposite hillside.

The husband is an avid hunter and did not recognize it as anything he has ever heard in the woods before. They went on the Internet where he played numerous game and owl sounds but couldn't find it. The husband pulled up a Bigfoot site and played some of the vocals. When he played the 'whoop' vocal, she said "That's it! That's it!".

The husband is a well respected local business man. The wife, who never thought bigfoot were real, now has a different view of the issue.

This encounter occured up on a plateau ridge west of the Ohio River. This location is only 1.8 miles from the May 2025 sighting of a bigfoot on the railroad tracks by a truck driver on Route 7.

Notes from Investigator Matt Moneymaker:

Wildcat Hollow may be an important habitat area for bigfoots due to the terrain shape and density of forest cover. By Ohio standards it is a steep deep gorge. This steep deep dark gorge would allow a large animal to escape the coldest winter winds and the most extreme summer heat in this part of the country.

There are other reports from this part of Ohio in recent years:
The closest geographically (1.83 miles to the north) is Report 78751.
The closest in chronologically (34 days prior) is Report 79982.
Other reports are in neighboring Columbiana County. This one regards a sighting near Beaver Creek State Park, and includes a map showing the location of the famous Ohio Howl recording (Google it):Report 77563
