Childhood incident near Trenton - possilble sighting & tracks
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1982

SEASON: Winter

MONTH: March

PROVINCE: Ontario

COUNTRY: Canada

LOCATION DETAILS: Follow the Glenmiller road outside Trenton (Ontario) heading North until you reach Peterson Street. Follow Peterson Street about 1/2 way down (it's a dead end street) past the fork in the street (forks to the left). You should see a large white apartment building. In the backyard of the apartment building you should find a path leading into the forest in the far left corner of the yard. Its been 12 years since I've lived there, so things might have changed.

NEAREST TOWN: Trenton

NEAREST ROAD: Glenmiller Road

OBSERVED: It's been so long now, it's a bit tough to remember. But, I still see some images in my mind as clear as they were the day it happened.

I was 7 or 8 years old. My sister and I used to ice-skate on a pond in the forest behind the apartment building we used to live in. It was about a 5 minute walk down a well beaten path.

We had just finished skating, which usually lasted about 2 hours and was something we did first thing in the morning, around 9am. So, around 11am we started to head back home for lunch.

I heard some movement in the bushes and just managed to catch a glimpse of something large, and brown. It was quite a distance away, I'd say at least 100 to 150 feet off the path. We had both figured it was just our nextdoor neighbour heading into the forest (a common occurance).

When we neared the split in the path leading to our backyard, the other direction leading to the nextdoor neighbour's yard; I noticed a large, human-like footprint in the snow, although it was much bigger than any human footprint I'd ever seen. The tracks led from the neighbours back yard into the forest off the path in the direction I seen the figure.

From there, things get a tad fuzzy but I recall as soon as I saw that footprint, I got a sinking feeling and was quite afraid. I remember my sister and I both ran across the backyard and into the apartment, although we never talked about.

To this day, my sister and I have never spoke about that day.

OTHER WITNESSES: The only other person I know that was there was my sister, as stated before she and I were just returning from ice skating.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: It was mid-morning, approximately 11am EST. The snow was wet, like it had just rained (although I can't remember if it did or not), the sky was grey and clouded.

ENVIRONMENT: The land where the figure was spotted was mainly deciduous forest. A frozen pond was located approximately 50 feet to the west, a creek approximately 200 feet to the east. The terrain itself was fairly rocky, yet fairly flat.

Follow-up investigation report:

Since it occurred some time ago the witness does not remember how many tracks he saw. He said that he was so frightened by the sighting and tracks that he just ran out of the area.

He could not give much more detail with regards to the large brown/dark shape he saw in the bushes. The witness saw it for about 3-4 seconds and only remembers it as being a "very large" shape. At that time he did not know what it was and thought perhaps it was a large person. This changed when he saw the tracks and then realized what it was he saw. Since he was about 12 years old he does not know how large the track was but said it was "huge". He thought back and gave an estimation of about 16" long and 8" wide. Most importantly, the witness remembers the tracks had great depth and the balls of the foot, heel and toes were very distinct.
