(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 1994
SEASON: Fall MONTH: October DATE: 22 STATE: Kentucky COUNTY: Bath County LOCATION DETAILS: Take Hwy 60 to Polksville Cemetary Rd, just South of Polksville, KY NEAREST TOWN: Polksville NEAREST ROAD: US60 OBSERVED: I was bow hunting in a ground blind. I was waiting for the deer to come down to the pine thicket for bedding. Suddenly a herd of deer coming running down in all directions, seconds later a giant black hulking figure came chasing them. This thing was very large. It ran past me on two legs. It must have ran into a dead tree because it knocked over and then continued chasing the deer into the pines. I was shaking but was completely camo and scented covered. I noticed it was getting dark so I decided to make a run, I ran up the logging road down the other side of the hill running directly to the fields of our farm. I didn't see the rusted single strand of barbwire. I hit it and flipped over. I broke the quiver off my bow. Ran home got to the house breathing heavy , sweating and dirty. My mom was cooking and I said "ma I think I saw a Bigfoot". Her response was "yeah they been seen around here" and went back to cooking. This event has stayed with me ever since. OTHER WITNESSES: No OTHER STORIES: Yes TIME AND CONDITIONS: 6:30PM just before dusk. Sunny. ENVIRONMENT: Hardwoods to pine thicket
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Charlie Raymond:
Spoke to the witness by phone on 7-2-2025.
Witness Overview:
Male, 46 years old, Army veteran, grew up on a farm near Cave Run Lake, Kentucky. Experienced Bigfoot sighting at age 14 while bowhunting on family property. Lifelong outdoorsman familiar with wildlife, hunting, and tracking.
The Encounter:
Occurred in early bow season (October), just before dusk. Witness was concealed in a natural ground blind made from a fallen tree, camouflaged head-to-toe. Initially observed a frantic herd of deer running erratically through the woods. Moments later, a massive, jet-black creature—estimated 8 feet tall and extremely broad—chased after them. The creature ran within 20 yards of the witness, moving quickly and powerfully through thick woods. It ran into a rotted 12-inch-diameter tree, knocking it down effortlessly. It ran with a slightly forward-leaning posture.
Physical Description:
Covered in black, shaggy hair. Very large hands. Muscular and bulky ("chunky monkey"). Head had a block-like shape with no visible neck. No visible facial features due to speed, lighting, and coloration. Creature emitted no noticeable odor, though the witness had strong cover scents (cow feces on his boots and raccoon urine) on him to assist with his hunt.
Aftermath:
Witness fled the woods, returned home breathless and told his mother—who casually acknowledged that Bigfoot sightings had occurred in the area before. He did not return to the woods unarmed after that. No obvious tracks found when he visited the spot a few days later, but he could tell the ground was heavily disturbed. Though shaken by the experience, he avoided talking about it for years due to fear of ridicule.
Current Involvement:
Now lives in Indianapolis, but still visits family property. Willing to revisit the sighting location and assist researchers. Has recently started speaking publicly about the event near the original sighting area.
I found him very honest and credible. The area near Cave Run Lake and Salt Lick, KY, has a history of Bigfoot activity. Park rangers and multiple BFRO and KBRO reports support local sightings.
